Help us distribute food at the Senior Warehouse Mobile Pantry

Description

Our Mobile Pantry program provides food to our neighbors in need every day!

Food from the Dare to Care warehouse is taken out into our 13-county service area and distributed with the help of volunteers like you. The Mobile Pantry ensures families can access food regardless of where they live. Dare to Care brings food directly to an identified food desert and sets up a temporary pantry on a consistent, scheduled basis.

On the 4th Tuesday of the month, Dare to Care will operate a Mobile Pantry from our Senior Outreach Warehouse. Help is needed from 10 volunteers.

Volunteers are needed to:

  • set-up tables to place food on (stations will be set up with at least 6 feet of distance between each).
  • help distribute food (clients will be appropriately distanced and one will be served at a time in each station).
  • help consolidate large amounts of produce into smaller bags.
  • add certain foods into boxes to make it easier for quick distribution.
  • break down boxes and collect plastic for recycling.

Additional Information:

  • Closed-toe shoes are required for volunteers.
  • Please wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and closed-toe shoes. As a reminder, this is a community-focused and family-friendly volunteer setting - clothing should allow you to move easily and help ensure everyone feels comfortable and respected.
  • Volunteers can check-in via their phone app or email to track hours.
  • When you arrive, there may be a line of cars forming - this is the distribution line. Do not pull into the distribution line. Please continue around the distribution line to park, find a Dare to Care staff member and let them know you are there to volunteer.
  • This opportunity will last until we run out of food.
  • This schedule is subject to change - please check email and voicemail messages for notice of cancellations.

Directions:

The warehouse is located in the Big “A” Shopping Center off Cane Run Road and Algonquin Parkway. If you turn into the center at the Big “A” take the first right, go to the stop sign and take a left. You will need to go to the end of the parking lot towards the flags, turn right at the flags and come behind the building. We are located directly behind the Northwood Machinery business.

If you have any specific concerns or accommodation requests, please contact anna.foshee@daretocare.org so we can assist you in navigating and participating in our volunteer activities comfortably. Your safety and inclusion are our top priorities.

This volunteer opportunity and volunteer attendance are crucial to operations and feeding our clients. If you are unable to make a volunteer shift, please unregister, or contact anna.foshee@daretocare.org. A no-show without notification may result in removal from future volunteer shifts.

Masks or are currently optional for Dare to Care volunteers, but if you or anyone in your home feels ill, is quarantined for health reasons, or has a fever, please stay home.
