Southwest Community Ministries is located in SW Jefferson County serving those that live in 40258, 40272 and the Jefferson County portion of 40177. SWCM runs a Dare to Care distribution site providing groceries and some personal hygiene items to neighbors in need.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Meals on Wheels Delivery Driver
Monday (St. Mary Elizabeth): Volunteers will meet at SME hospital at noon each Monday, in order to pick up meals, and then will deliver at their own pace to the clients on their route sheet.
Wednesday (SWCM Pantry): Volunteers will meet at SWCM pantry at 9:30am each Wednesday, in order to pick up meals, and then will deliver at their own pace to the clients on their route sheet.
Donation Pickups
- Monday (Kroger Valley): Volunteers will use the work van or their own vehicle to pick up food donations from Valley Kroger each Monday, and then drop them off at the SWCM food pantry. Pickups are any time before 11am.
- Thursday (Kroger Valley): Volunteers will use the work van or their own vehicle to pick up food donations from Valley Kroger each Thursday, and then drop them off at the SWCM food pantry. Pickups are any time before 11am
- Thursday (Kroger Terry): Volunteers will use the work van or their own vehicle to pick up food donations from Terry Kroger each Thursday, and then drop them off at the SWCM food pantry. Pickups are any time before 11am
- Thursday (Walmart Dixie): Volunteers will use the work van or their own vehicle to pick up food/item donations from Dixie Walmart each Thursday, and then drop them off at the SWCM food pantry. Pickups are any time before 11am
Pizza Pickups
- Monday (Dixie Little Caesars): Volunteers will use their own vehicle to pick up pizza donations from Little Caesars each Monday, and then drop them off at the SWCM food pantry. Arrival time should be 11am.
Commodities Deliveries
- Volunteers will meet at the SWCM food pantry to pick up and deliver commodities boxes 1x/month. Volunteers can choose the best day of the month, and the best time before noon for them to deliver.
Translator Services
- Looking for volunteers for translating services 1 day out of the week. Hours TBD with volunteers. (We are seeing a rise in Spanish speaking families, plus other languages).
Food Pantry
- Pantry Unload: Volunteers will unload pantry food pallets on the first Wednesday of the month, starting at 9:15am. *heavier lifting*
Seasonal
- Volunteers can receive emails/newsletters to be up to date on seasonal volunteer opportunities. That includes: Back2School, Children’s Christmas, Turkey Trot, and other pop up events.
